    <title>Stream Bank Work Complete at Dorton Park</title>
    <link>https://concordbonds.com/Project-Updates/ID/18/Stream-Bank-Work-Complete-at-Dorton-Park</link>
    <description>On Wednesday July 23rd, the safety fencing was removed around the Coddle Creek streambank repair zone in the northwest section of Dorton Park. While the renovations for Dorton Park were completed earlier this spring, a portion of the Coddle Creek Greenway and disc golf course remained closed as work to repair the stream bank continued.&amp;nbsp;Bank and blufftop damage to Coddle Creek in the park became more extensive over time, and repairs required special permitting from state and federal agencies which prolonged the completion of the stream bank work.

Contractors have now compelted the additional work needed and the park, greenway, and disc golf course are now fully open for residents and visitors to enjoy. &amp;nbsp;This fall, trees will be planted throughout the park as the final step in the Dorton Park Bond Project.

    <link>https://concordbonds.com/Project-Updates/ID/19/July-2025-Update</link>
    <description>Works is nearing completion on the Dorton Park stream bank restoration projet. This project restores and repairs the bank and blufftop damage to Coddle Creek that has been worsened overtime due to heavy storms and rainfall. Once complete, the greenway and disc golf course will be fully reopened.&amp;nbsp;

At Caldwell Park, contractors are continuing to mass grade the site, install water lines, and continue with underground infrastructure work. This project is still on track to be completed summer 2026.

At Ramsuer Park, construction has officially kicked off. Crews have installed a construction fence and are in the beginning stages of clearing the future park site.

Next, we anticipate bidding to take place for the Academy-Gibson Athletic Fields and Dave Phillips Park.

    <description>

On March 25, Mayor Dusch, members of Council, Team Concord, and special guests - Mr. James L. Dorton&amp;rsquo;s wife, Margaret, and daughter, Louise, gathered to celebrate the grand re-opening of Dorton Park!

This marks our first completed Parks and Recreation Bond project! The renovations at Dorton Park included disc golf expansion, resurfacing of the tennis courts with added pickleball lines, expanded parking, field renovations, stream restoration, and two new pedestrian bridges. Improvements were also made to the restrooms and our county&amp;rsquo;s first-ever inclusive changing table was added thanks to our partnership with Willow&amp;#39;s Wish Foundation, making our parks accessible for all to enjoy!

Construction still continues at the McInnes Aquatic Center and Caldwell Park. The construction fencing was installed, and stormwater work is currently underway.

Design work continues for the athletic fields, skatepark, pump track, and sculpture garden at Academy-Gibson, Hartsell Park, and Poplar Tent Park.

The next project that will go before City Council for approval is the future J.E. Jim Ramseur Park. Last week, the City of Concord Fire Department conducted a live-burn training at a structure on the site that needed to be cleared.

Crews have been pouring the sidewalks and curbs along the newly expanded parking lot, laying the base layer of asphalt along the new sections of greenway, and paving the tennis courts.
